Reporting To: Coordinator and/or Team Lead

Summary of Work:

Under the direction of the Coordinator, the Wellness Monitor will be responsible to provide daily wellness monitoring of the clients inside the Lethbridge Shelter and surrounding area, ensuring clients are safe, respected, feel welcomed, and call the right emergency personnel when required.; they will also be responsible to provide support to the interdisciplinary team where needed. The Wellness monitor will also provide peer support to clients by providing social connections and referrals to the staff at the shelter.

Professional & Personal Qualities:
  • Education as a Health Care Aide (asset) or in Addictions and Mental Health, or other related Health Sciences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Able to work evenings, as well as some weekends and holidays.
  • Personal experience in recovery from addiction challenge(s), and ability to draw upon
    wellness and recovery in providing intentional peer support (asset).
  • Providing direct human services to clients who are economically disadvantaged, experiencing mental health challenges, and/or drug/alcohol dependence in a diverse environment.
  • Familiarity with community resources; such as addiction, mental health, income assistance, and harm reduction.
  • Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries.
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, unemployment, mental health, drug and alcohol dependence and harm reduction.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, monitor, and support clients.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload.
  • Strong physical and mental ability to perform work task and operate job related equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records

Summary of Work:

The security guard is responsible for ensuring a safe enviroment for all employees, clientele and visitors. Hours of work consist of Days, Evenings, and Night rotations. Security Staff are consistently faced with complex situations; therefore, Security is required to troubleshoot where needed and/or consult with Team Lead if unable to do so. This also requires incident reports if the situation involves overdose, Barring Policy and/or any involvement with emergency services. This must be done in accordance with Lethbridge Wellness Shelter and Stabilization Centre Policies & Procedures.

Professional & Personal Qualities:
  • 2 to 3 years experience in a high risk environment: health care, low income, homeless shelters, etc.(required)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Security Guard position (preferred)
  • Valid Alberta security License (preferred/ training may be provided)
  • Valid First Aid Certification (preferred/ training may be provided)
  • Overtime work may be required
  • Able to sit, walk, trasfer, lift (80 lbs), carry epuipment and supplies, if required.
  • Experience with CCTV, access control systems and fire response systems is a must
  • Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time
  • Resiliency and stress tolerance and the ability to maintain composure, remain calm and focused when dealing with a high volume of volatile and stressful situations
  • The ability to make sound rational decisions based on information provided and employ critical thinking where information may not be clear.
  • Strong strategically-focused analytical skills, good common sense; and capacity to provide leadership
  • Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiating skills

Summary of Work:

The Outreach and Addictions Support Worker provides community outreach around the Lethbridge Shelter and the OPS by promoting services and redirecting clients who use substances into the OPS; when safe and appropriate, responding to overdose events in the community near the Lethbridge Shelter and OPS, and providing additional support for overdose events in the Lethbridge Shelter; de-escalating challenging behaviors and activating EMS and Lethbridge Police Services as appropriate; facilitating connections and subsequent participation to recovery-oriented services; cleaning up local needle debris; and supporting community relations.

Professional & Personal Qualities:
  • Must have education in Addictions and Mental Health, or other related Health Sciences.
  • Must have 2 to 3 years experience in a high risk environment: health care, low income, homeless shelters, etc.(required)

  • Minimum three (3) years’ work experience in the area of community health or one-year hospital work experience.
